Maintaining Compatibility with Microsoft Upgrades

Maintaining Compatibility with Microsoft Upgrades

Compatibility

No one wants to upgrade their computer when everything seems to be working, but in order to ensure that everything continues to function, upgrades are necessary. Over the years, Jayhawk Software products have performed well on a number of Microsoft Operating Systems and SQL Server versions, but many of these are no longer supported by Microsoft. This lack of support has prompted us to develop a set of minimum standards for installing and running Jayhawk Software programs.   Technology is no exception to the rule with it comes to the old saying that “change is inevitable”.

Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 will no longer be supported as Operating Systems. Microsoft ended support for these products and we cannot guarantee that future releases will function properly. The recommended minimum Operating System for Jayhawk Software is Windows 8.1. Windows 7’s Mainstream Support ended on January 13, 2015. For more information on operating systems supported by Microsoft, go to: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/lifecycle.

Jayhawk products also require the use of SQL Server.  The recommended version of SQL Server is Microsoft SQL Server 2014.  The recommended server OS is Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2.  Many users have opted to upgrade to Windows 10 from their Windows 7 or Windows 8. If you have upgraded to Windows 10 from an earlier Operating System, we do recommend upgrading your SQL Server version. Microsoft SQL Server 2008 is not supported by Microsoft on Windows 10.  It is recommended to upgrade to Microsoft SQL Server 2014 after a Windows 10 upgrade.  However, prior to upgrading any operating system, we would recommend that you verify compatibility of all your software and equipment to make sure they will all run on a newer operating system!  You do not want to be caught in a situation where you cannot access your software due to it not being compatible with the new operating system.
